terrible [Posted on 2008-04-27] Overpriced piece of junk. This camera is terrible in low light. The camera has a maximum slow shutter speed which means you can't shoot in even moderately low light conditions without the moderately crappy flash. Instead of using a slow shutter spead to collect enough light, the camera annouces the shot is 'underexposed' and simply uses its maximum shutter speed and you get a dark shot. Cameras that cost a third this much can do this totally normal function. Why this works so poorly is beyond me. I'm annoyed to have to return this piece of junk.
Just what you are looking for! [Posted on 2008-05-27] Exilim z1080! great digital camera!!! pretty pocket camera! Loved the material! is a little heavier than other digital cameras, but that's because of the material! metal! and I like that! gives the camera an stylish look! and of course it's way resistant! It has a lot of modes that are very handy!
PROS:
- Beautiful camera
- Pretty slim and small
- Big LCD
- Resolution! 10.1 effective pixels
- Mic and speaker
- Battery life! AMAZING! and it's better if you buy an extra battery! although the charging is pretty quick!
- 1 gb memory is enough! you can take lots of pictures!
- Audio in videos
CONS:
- Videos taken at night are not high quality ... but c'mon! this is a pocket camera! if you take videos during day light the results are going to be great!
- Optical zoom ... but again: pocket camera! we are not talking about some SLR camera!
- I have to agree with other customers, the manual is useless! pretty manual but that's it!
Maybe you'll read something about the white balance or color balance ... I haven't notice the problem with my pictures, but maybe the videos are a little dark sometimes (fixable)! and apparently theres a firmware update at casio web page! I highly recommend this camera!!!!
EX-Z1080 [Posted on 2008-06-13] Great images from a compact 10MP camera.
Easy to use, battery last long time...
Broke in four months - difficult service [Posted on 2008-06-26] I bought this camera (EX-Z1080) for both my daughters for Christmas 2007 because they were cute and small. I should have known to stick with the Big Guys. One daughter began having battery difficulties immediately and has to rotate far too often between the main and the spare, keeping one charging. My other daughter's camera simply stopped working completely four months after purchase. Although under the one-year manufacturer's warranty, Casio has questioned her treatment of the camera and warned her of default if they find the camera was abused, which it was not. My daughter is a 40 year old mother of five - she knows how to handle a camera. In addition, they want the camera returned in the original box, which she no longer has, and have told her she can expect a four month wait while they try to figure out the problem. Casio should have mailed her a new camera within five days - no questions asked! Her children are rapidly growing and she should not have to wait for a repaired dime store camera. I sent her a Nikon Coolpix S550 as a replacement. I assume I will soon have to replace my other daughter's camera as well with a real camera. To add insult to injury, these cameras were $100 more than I paid for the Coolpix! My two year old grandson's Fisher-Price camera works better than this. I won't ever make this mistake again. Stick with the Big Boys - they know how to build a camera and they stand behind it.
Great little camer - no view finder [Posted on 2008-08-04] We recently purchased a Casio Exilim, after reading the great reviews on-line.
While it is a nice little camera, with many handy features, includng an exceptionally large display screen, it was missing one rather important feature for me - a view finder! The vast majority of pictures that we take are outdoors, often in bright light. From mountains for distant scenes, to close-ups of flowers, etc. In bright light conditions, it is very difficult to impossible to see what is on the screen, and I need a view finder in which to view what image is being captured. Barring that feature, I found myself guessing and hoping I'd be getting what I wanted in my picture, with varying degress of success. However, when I wanted to get some up-close pictures of rain-drops on flowers, I could not capture it at all, since I couldn't see the image on the screen!
Sadly, this issue has caused me to decide I need to return this little guy, and find one with an old-fashioned view finder to use when I need it.
For those who can function with just the screen, by all means, give it a shot! For the price, it will be hard to beat.
